Blue Groove Backstory
As I headed online to learn more about the Blue Groove wine and awesome designs of Salvatore Principe, I was surprised at how little of the information I wanted I was unable to find. I had a few things I wanted to learn more about, but try as I might I couldn’t locate some key information. However, I still love the designer and have a few “leads” that I can leave you with.
Blue Groove Online
Blue Groove Wine has one of the simplest websites I’ve ever seen – a home page with an overview of the wine and designer, a page on the wine with tasting details and food pairings, and a where to buy page. That’s it…nothing more, nothing less. I actually wanted more. So, I headed off to social media. Guess what? No Facebook, no twitter, nothing I could find….Nothing!
I was able to find out that the wine is a California wine from the Lodi region, but that information was actually right on the bottle. So, really, nothing new. From there, I headed back to the simple website to click the link for the designer Salvatore Principe – after all he is the reason I selected this wine in the first place.
The Designer
Salvatore Principe has a website that is much richer than what I found on the wine site. There is a great amount of background on the designer and his work – which is all beautiful. For anyone interested in his designs, I would encourage you to visit his site.
The background of his life and design is full of twists and turns. He was born and grew up in New York and worked with many different mediums before landing in the design space we see on the wine bottle. However, the Blue Groove design is outside of the collection he is most widely know for – hearts. From his website this is the description of his heart collection:
By now, Principe had painted thousands of hearts in every size and color – collaged hearts, floating hearts, gilded hearts and enigmatic hearts camouflaged in backgrounds of his abstracts. He had also branched out, dabbling in commercial syndication, fashion and even wine.
Here is just a sample of the hearts in his beautiful collection:
Additional Wine
The other thing I found in my search was more wine with beautiful labels designed by Salvatore Principe. And, just in time for Valentines day, the labels are his beautiful hearts!!
I was so excited! Then, my challenges and frustrations seeped in. I thought it would be really fun to work with these labels in my designs this week in addition to the Blue Groove. However, as hard as I searched, I could not find where to buy this wine in my area. These wines are from Argentina, not California and maybe that is why I was having difficulty. I’m not sure of the reason, but I was disappointed. I’ll be keeping my eye out for these bottles whenever I’m out and about.
Summary
While there is a great story about the designer online, I was disappointed in the lack of information a was able to find on the wines themselves. In addition, I was surprised to find that this was the first brand I’ve seen with absolutely no presence in social media. They might have been there somewhere, but certainly not easy to find.
